International Conference on Agrochemicals Protecting Crop, Health and Natural Environment opens
For sustainable agriculture, crops must be protected from the onslaught of various pests and diseases, said Minister of State for Agriculture Sh Kanti Lal Bhuria in the inaugural function of first International Conference on Agrochemicals Protecting Crop, Health and Natural Environment, here today. For sustainable agricultural production, economically viable pest management strategies need to be put in place so as to meet present and future requirement of food, further he added in his inaugural address.
Three-day conference is organized by the Society of Pesticides Science Indian India in association with Indian Agricultural Research Institute and Indian Council of Agricultural Research in New Delhi during January 8-11, 2008. Four hundred and fifty delegates from USA, UK, Canada, Brazil, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc are participating in conference to discuss various issues related to crop protection, health and environment. Society of Pesticide Science India is the only leading academic Institution in South Asia addressing multifarious aspects of pesticide science, technology and sustainable agriculture.
On the occasion of Conference, Dr Mangala Rai, Secretary, DARE and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research said in a message that there is an urgent need to review the advances made in crop protection research and formulate future strategies to achieve our ultimate goal of more food, nutrition, high income and employment.
Earlier in the inaugural session, Dr S A Patil, Director, Indian Agricultural Research Institute informed the delegates that the conference will an excellent opportunity for interactions between the scientists and provide further direction for developing future strategies of research and bring out recommendations and roadmaps for providing effective protection umbrella for agricultural crops and food commodities to meet quality food and fibre requirements of our fast growing populations.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar, General Secretary and Convener of this conference reiterated the theme of the conference was chosen taking into consideration fast changing scenario in crop protection and emergence of new concepts in crop protection, biotechnology, nanotechnology and other sciences. The conference will offer insight into the latest developments of the relevant science and provide forum for interactions, among representative of different disciplines from world over.
