An Interactive Meeting on “Open Water Fisheries Development in Assam” was jointly organized by the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata and the Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Assam at Meen Bhawan, Guwahati, Assam here today.
Inaugurating the Meeting, Shri Rakesh Kumar, I.A.S., Commissioner & Secretary (Fisheries), Government of Assam urged both the Organizations for continuing to work together for the Open Water Fisheries Development for the enhancement and conservation of the resources.
Shri Prasanta Borkakati, A.C.S., Managing Director, Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd., Government of Assam outlined the working of the ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and AFDC for the development of the Beel Fisheries under the administrative control of AFDC.
Dr. Dhurba Jyoti Sharma, Managing Director, FISHFED-cum-Nodal Officer, APART, Department of Fisheries, Government of Assam underlined the main objective of the Meeting.
Shri J.P. Medhi, Joint Director (Fisheries), Department of Fisheries, Government of Assam delivered the welcome address.
Shri J.P. Medhi, Joint Director (Fisheries), Department of Fisheries, Government of Assam proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore highlighted the recent developments in the Inland Open Water Fisheries of the country and the Institute’s initiatives in Assam and other States. He stated that the ICAR-CIFRI can be a knowledge partner for the development of the Beel Fisheries in Assam.
