A meeting to review the research activities and strengthening further research program of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) Strategic Research Partner Institutes under Animal Sciences theme was inaugurated here today.
Dr B Venkateswarlu, Former Vice-Chancellor, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, and Chairman, Expert Committee for NICRA Strategic Research highlighted the need to minimize the loss in production of milk and eggs during the periods of weather extremes. He further highlighted the importance of reducing methane emissions from animal sector.
Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management) and Co-Chair urged the scientists to study vector-animal-climate interactions to address animal health issues. He also highlighted the need to quantify GHG footprints of animal production.
Dr. A.M. Paturkar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University and Member, Expert Committee while appreciating the work being carried out by the institutes under NICRA asked the scientists to address feed and health issues of animals during extreme weather events.
Dr. S. Bhaskar, Assistant Director General (A, AF&CC) and Member, Expert Committee expressed the need to have focused objectives for each partner institute to avoid duplication of work.
Dr. VK Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA and Member Secretary briefed about the purpose of review meeting.
Dr. K.A. Gopinath, Co-PI, NICRA gave an overview of the research program of partner institutes.
