ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal under the All India Network Programme on Organic Farming Centre, organized a Mass awareness campaign on “Cow-Compost-Carbon and Climate under Theme: Organic/Natural Farming” as a commemoration of 75 years of India's Independence, today.
The aim of the Mass Awareness Campaign was to create awareness and importance of cow & composting to enrich the soil with carbon, which is linked to mitigate climate change.
The event was jointly organized by ICAR– Indian Institute of Farming System Research (IIFSR), Modipuram, and Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal.
The Chief Guest, Shri Kamal Patel, Agriculture Minister, Government of Madhya Pradesh, informed that cow based farming and product can provide solutions to all the emerging problems in agriculture. He said the government is promoting and incentivising desi cow-based farming through different schemes.
The Guest of Honour, Shri Shalendra Singh, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Government of Madhya Pradesh urged to provide a simple model that farmers can adopt.
Dr. A. K. Patra, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal, briefed about the Institute's technology developed on composting/enriched compost, microbial consortia for in-situ recycling of residue /management, climate change mitigation, and soil health.
Dr. (Mrs.) Suman Prasad (DDA, ATMA, Bhopal) informed about the status of organic farming in the state and requested to provide the Institute technology that can be taken to the farmers field.
Dr. Somasundaram Jayaraman, Organizing secretary of the campaign, highlighted the importance of composting and carbon in soil health management.
The progressive farmers, Shri Narayan Singh Patel, Shri Krishna Pal Singh Lodhi, and Shri Ashok Meena shared their experiences on natural farming and preparation jeevamrit and Ghanjeevamrit.
An interactive session with farmers was also held during the programme.
More than 250 participants participants, including farmers, scientists, students, extension workers, and other officials, participated in the virtual platform program.
