Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR inaugurated the Regional Research Centre of Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) at Anand, Gujarat today in presence of Dr A. M. Shekh, Vice-Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University (AAU) and Dr P. Jayasankar, Director, CIFA. Dr. Ayyappan emphasized on applied research and extension programmes in freshwater aquaculture for the benefit of the people of this region. He urged the scientists of the centre to work for and with the fish farmers of the region.
The Regional Research Centre of CIFA, Anand is the fourth centre of CIFA and is presently functioning in the ATIC building of AAU, Anand with the objective of (i) Developing location specific technologies for freshwater fish farming for the region, (ii) Standardisation of breeding and culture techniques of regionally important freshwater fish species, (iii) Capacity building of line department officials and (iv) imparting need based training for fish farmers and entrepreneurs. The centre was opened at Anand by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between AAU and CIFA in August last year.
Dr. Shekh extended his best wishes for the success of programmes of the research centre of CIFA in Gujarat.
Dr Satyabrata Maiti, Director, Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research Institute, Heads and In-Charges of different ICAR research organisations located in Gujarat also participated in the inauguration programme of the centre.
