A 3-day Skill Development Workshop was organised by the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Kolkata, to augment the Income from Small Farming for the beneficiaries of the Scheduled Caste community of Baghmundi and Arsha block of Purulia district, in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, from 3rd- 5th March 2024.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Gautam Saha, Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Nadia, spoke about the importance of such programmes to improve the livelihood of the SC farmers.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the need to reach the unreached and serve the unserved through the SCSP programme for entrepreneurship development.

Dr. Partha Das, Registrar, WBUAFS, Dr. N. Ghosh, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, WBUAFS, Dr. A. Sen, Head, ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Dr. Manoranjan Roy, PI of the project and Dr. Keshab Chandra Dhara, Deputy Director (Farms), WBUAFS were also present during the programme.

The Workshop covered livestock, poultry and fish farming (like available resources, breeds, breeding, feed formulation and feeding, housing, preventive measures, hatching of chicks and ducklings, and marketing strategy) to upsurge feasible enterprises.

The valedictory session was presided over by the Chief Guest, Dr. T. Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, and Prof. S.S. Dana, Vice-Chancellor, WBUAFS.

A total of 48 beneficiaries participated in the programme.
