ICAR–Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture inaugurated a five-day training programme titled “Advanced Aquaculture Practices for Resilient and Sustainable Development in Odisha” today. The programme, being held at ICAR-CIBA’s Muttukadu Experimental Station, is designed to train 20 Assistant Fisheries Officers from Odisha on sustainable and resilient brackishwater aquaculture models involving shrimp, crab, and finfish farming.

Shri K.C. Devasenapathi, Member-Secretary, Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA), Government of India, inaugurated the training and visited various research and development facilities including hatcheries, experimental units, feed mills, and farms. During his interaction with the scientific team, he emphasized the importance of aligning all technologies with CAA’s regulatory guidelines to ensure responsible development in shrimp, finfish, and crab farming.
Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Lal, Director, ICAR-CIBA, highlighted the institute's efforts toward sustainable intensification and diversification through integrated models such as seaweed and crab farming to strengthen the brackishwater aquaculture sector.

As part of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ICAR-CIBA and RS PCR Labs, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh for the transfer of technology on Multiplex Real-Time PCR using TaqMan chemistry for rapid detection and quantification of Vibrio harveyi and V. campbellii, capable of delivering results within an hour. This collaboration is expected to significantly improve disease diagnostics and biosecurity in aquaculture systems.
