Hands-on Training on "Captive Breeding and Larval Rearing of Indigenous Ornamental Fishes" Organised

ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources organised a hands-on training on "Captive Breeding and Larval Rearing of Indigenous Ornamental Fishes" on its Centre for Peninsular Aquatic Genetic Resources, Kochi, during 07-12 August 2025.

The training was inaugurated by Prof. T.V. Anna Mercy, Director, Aquaculture, Sacred Heart College, Kochi. He lauded the institute’s efforts in conserving aquatic genetic resources of the country.

Dr. Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow delivered the Presidential address and emphasizing the pivotal role of the institute on capacity building and knowledge dissemination for promoting sustainable livelihood and aquatic biodiversity conservation.

Hands-on Training on "Captive Breeding and Larval Rearing of Indigenous Ornamental Fishes" Organised

A training manual covering the aspects of breeding, rearing, live feed, water quality, disease management, packing and transportation was released during the inauguration and distributed to the participants.

Scientists from the institute and Resource persons from outside, including traders delivered talks. The programme was organised as part of the ICAR’s-Network project on ornamental fishes.

Over 20 participants, including officials from the State Fisheries Department, faculty from Agricultural University, postgraduate students from colleges and universities, as well as entrepreneurs, attended the programme.
