National Dialogue on Boosting Meat Exports Organized

ICAR–National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, organized a National Dialogue on “Driving India’s Water Buffalo and Poultry Meat Exports: Policy Reforms and Ecosystem Development” at its auditorium today.

The program was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. K. C. Veeranna, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Dr. Saseendranath M. R., Chairman, QRT, ICAR–NMRI, and Smt. Rajni Arora, Deputy General Manager, APEDA, New Delhi, attended as Guests of Honour.

Welcoming the participants, Dr. S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR–NMRI, highlighted the institute’s initiatives to strengthen India’s meat export sector.

National Dialogue on Boosting Meat Exports Organized

The dialogue brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from APEDA, DAHD, FSSAI, BIS, leading meat industry players such as Frigerio Conserva Allana Pvt. Ltd., Venky’s India Ltd., Indbro Research & Breeding Farms Pvt. Ltd., RR Foods & Feeds, Sneha Farms Pvt. Ltd., Licious Delightful Gourmet Pvt. Ltd., along with QRT and IMC members of ICAR–NMRI, scientists from ICAR institutes and veterinary universities, and student researchers.

The technical sessions included a Roundtable on Buffalo Meat Exports, which deliberated on enhancing trade competitiveness, utilizing male buffalo calves, and establishing traceability systems. A Poultry Meat Export Readiness Dialogue focused on strategies for market expansion, innovations in processing and packaging, and compliance with international certification standards.

The deliberations generated actionable recommendations for policy reforms, industry–research collaboration, streamlined certification and documentation, and integration of processing facilities to align with international hygiene and packaging benchmarks.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Guest urged all stakeholders to chart a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen India’s meat export ecosystem in line with the national agricultural export agenda and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
