ICAR–Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) today to strengthen the nationwide dissemination of genetically improved carp seed, in the presence of Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR–CIFA.
The MoUs were executed with Finspire Hatchery, Odisha, represented by Mrs. Khusirani Mohanty, and Sofiqul Hatchery, Assam, represented by Mr. Rahul Amin. With these agreements, the two hatcheries have been formally authorized as the 15th and 16th multiplier units of ICAR–CIFA, respectively, for the production and supply of AhR Jayanti rohu and CIFA–Amrit catla across the country.

The signing ceremony was attended by several eminent experts and senior officials, including Prof. Baskaran Manimaran, Chairman, QRT and Former Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam; Dr. Dam Roy, Former Director, ICAR–CCARI, Andaman; Dr. Asim K. Pal, Former Joint Director, ICAR–CIFE, Mumbai; and Dr. Randhir Singh, Former Assistant Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR. The dignitaries appreciated ICAR–CIFA’s sustained efforts to enhance nationwide access to high-quality, genetically improved fish seed, which is vital for improving productivity, profitability, and sustainability in Indian aquaculture.
The MoUs mark another significant step towards strengthening public–private partnerships and ensuring the availability of superior fish seed to farmers, thereby contributing to the sustainable growth of the freshwater aquaculture sector in the country.
