A three-day practical training program on ‘Post-Harvest Technology and Agricultural Enterprise Development’ was successfully organized from 28 to 30 January 2026 at the ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology.

Keeping in view the importance of post-harvest management, processing, and value addition to make agriculture profitable in hill regions, the training was organized under the guidance of the Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS.

The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal Investigator, and Dr. Kushagra Joshi, Co-Investigator.

Farmers were motivated to enhance their income by linking agriculture with entrepreneurship. During the program, practical training was imparted on topics such as farmer needs assessment, scientific storage and pest management, post-harvest technologies, and drudgery reduction.

Special emphasis was given through live demonstrations on finger millet (mandua) threshing technology, preparation of tofu and milk from soybean and bhat, operation of flour mills, and cleaning and maintenance of machines. Lectures were also delivered on mushroom production and processing, beekeeping and honey processing, marketing, branding, and government support schemes.

Participants were familiarized with advanced technologies through demonstrations on the use of drones in agriculture and field visits. A visit was organized to the Livelihood Value Addition Unit at Hawalbagh Block, and trainees from RBI provided guidance on preparation of business plans. Feedback was collected from participants at the conclusion of the program.

A total of 17 Scheduled Caste farmers from Almora and Bageshwar districts actively participated in the program.
