ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune, in collaboration with IPL Biologicals Ltd., organized a field day at Bopegaon, Nashik, Maharashtra today to showcase the success of biointensive viticulture technology. The programme demonstrated effective strategies for reducing on-farm pesticide applications and producing “zero-residue” grapes, benefiting nearly 150 progressive farmers from the region.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sujoy Saha conveyed the message of Dr. Kaushik Banerjee, Director, ICAR-NRCG, highlighting the successful integration of novel strains of Trichoderma spp. and Bacillus spp. in grape cultivation. He shared that the technology has been validated over the past nine years across ten strategically selected vineyard plots in the Nashik region, demonstrating consistent results in producing safe and residue-free grapes.
The participating grape growers appreciated ICAR-NRCG’s continued efforts in providing timely advisories and technical guidance to promote Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). These interventions have significantly contributed to maintaining high quality standards and achieving zero rejection of Indian grape consignments in international export markets.

As part of the social outreach initiative during the event, personal protective kits for pesticide application were distributed to farmers by the Pesticides Manufacturers & Formulators Association of India, reinforcing the importance of safe handling practices and farmer well-being.
The field day underscored ICAR-NRCG’s commitment to advancing sustainable viticulture practices, enhancing farmer incomes, and ensuring safe consumption of grapes for domestic and global markets.
