ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Regional Station, Karnal, organized a Farmers’ Training Programme along with the distribution of agricultural inputs under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) component of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM–RKVY).
On this occasion, around 500 farmers were provided certified seeds of PB Pusa Basmati-1509 (12 kg per farmer). The Chief Guest emphasized that agricultural research should focus on enhancing farmers’ income while promoting sustainable farming systems. He highlighted ongoing research on bacterial diseases in rice, the development of improved and climate-resilient varieties, and the adoption of cost-effective technologies. Farmers were also advised to use fertilizers and pesticides judiciously and adopt modern scientific practices. It was noted that ICAR-IARI technologies have significantly contributed to national food security and agricultural exports.

The Special Guest urged farmers to embrace innovation, undertake small-scale experiments, and focus on quality production to remain competitive in global markets.

Other experts shared insights on recent advancements and farmer-centric initiatives. Topics covered during the training sessions included paddy management, vegetable production for nutritional security, agronomic practices, quality seed production, and safe storage practices. The programme also featured the felicitation of staff and the formal inauguration of seed distribution.
