ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, under the aegis of ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a training programme on “Promoting Alternative Fertilizers for Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture” today, at Cumbharjvua, Tiswadi taluka, North Goa, under the National Awareness Campaign on Soil Health Management and Balanced Use of Fertilizers. The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about sustainable nutrient management practices for improving soil fertility, reducing environmental degradation, and enhancing climate resilience in agriculture.

Experts highlighted that excessive use of synthetic fertilizers leads to soil degradation, nutrient imbalance, reduced microbial activity, water pollution, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. During the technical session, participants were informed about eco-friendly alternatives such as microbial inoculants, value-added compost, biochar, acidulated microbial products, formulation of modified fertilizers, and liquid macro- and micronutrient fertilizers. These inputs help improve nutrient use efficiency and can partially or completely replace conventional chemical fertilizers. Farmers were also sensitized to climate-resilient agricultural practices and the importance of conserving soil health for future generations. Interactive discussions helped participants understand the practical use of modern technologies in their farming systems.
A total of 16 women farmers actively participated in the programme, reflecting strong community involvement in sustainable agriculture.
