ICAR-Central Research Institute of Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad organized an awareness programme on Soil Health Management and Balanced Fertilizer Use under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) programme at Chada village in Motakondur Mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Telangana.
The programme was conducted under the Intensive Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers initiated by ICAR with the objective of educating farmers on the importance of balanced and scientific fertilizer application for enhancing crop productivity, maintaining soil fertility, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
During the programme, experts emphasized the importance of soil test-based nutrient management and explained the role of macro and micronutrients in crop growth and development. Farmers were sensitized to the adverse effects of indiscriminate and excessive use of fertilizers on soil health, crop productivity, and the environment.

The experts also highlighted key principles of soil health management, including balanced fertilization, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), soil test-based fertilizer application, use of organic amendments, and application of bio-fertilizers. Recommendations on efficient fertilizer use and adoption of sustainable farming practices were shared with the participants.
Farmers were cautioned against the excessive use of urea due to its negative impact on soil health, crop productivity, and input costs. The programme further emphasized the use of eco-friendly fertilizers such as organic manure, green manure, bio-fertilizers, vermicompost, compost, and liquid fertilizers. Demonstrations on seed treatment using bio-fertilizers were also conducted for the participating farmers.
A total of 100 farmers attended the programme.
