Training Programme on Production Technology of Oilseeds under NFSM organized

A two-day Training Programme on “Oilseeds Production Technology for Nodal Officers of KVKs of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi States” under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Udaipur-I (Rajasthan) from 15th to 16th March, 2019.

In his inaugural address, Dr. S.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jodhpur briefed about the oilseeds production’s status of 9 major oilseed crops (Soybean, Groundnut, Mustard, Safflower, Sunflower, Sesame, Castor, Linseed and Niger) of the country.  He said that the Technology Mission on Oilseeds (TMO), ISOPOM, NFSM, etc., were started with an objective to achieve the self-sufficiency in oilseed production. India is able to produce only 30% of Country’s demand, whereas, the Country is spending 70 thousand crore/year on importing for meeting the requirements of edible oil. He urged that the technologies should be up-scaled though the stakeholders’ meeting for participatory planning, re-synthetization of technological packages.

Dr. S.K. Sharma, DEE, SKRAU, Bikaner and Dr. S. Maheswari, DEE, MPUAT, Udaipur underlined the various issues arising in implementing the programme. They urged proper execution of the feedback mechanism in order to help the researchers, development departments and policy makers for taking the issues for future modification in implementation of the programme.

The training programme registered a total participation by 61 KVKs.
