ICAR and RPCAU Organizes Mega Farmer Outreach Programme on Natural Farming and Soil Health under Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026

12 June 2026, Motihari, Bihar

A mega district-level conference-cum-training programme on “Khet Bachao Abhiyan, Natural Farming and Kharif Campaign 2026” was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Piprakothi under the aegis of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University. The programme witnessed the participation of 4,238 farmers, including 3,160 male and 1,080 female farmers, along with scientists, extension personnel, policymakers, and public representatives.

Organized as part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, the programme aimed to promote soil health conservation, natural farming, balanced nutrient management, and climate-resilient agricultural practices. Technical sessions focused on reducing excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers and enhancing sustainable farming systems through eco-friendly and resource-efficient technologies.

The training programme covered key aspects of natural farming, including soil health management through green manuring and organic amendments, preparation and application of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, and Ghanjeevamrit, integrated nutrient and pest management, crop residue recycling, and climate-resilient farming technologies. Four extension folders were also released during the event.

Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Radha Mohan Singh, Member of Parliament, Motihari; Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence; and Former Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, emphasized that soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture and national food security. He encouraged farmers to adopt natural and organic farming practices, enhance the use of farmyard manure, vermicompost, green manures, crop residue recycling, and biofertilizers, and focus on restoring soil organic carbon and beneficial microbial activity for long-term soil fertility.

The Special Guest, Ramchandra Prasad, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Government of Bihar, highlighted the importance of climate-resilient and resource-efficient agriculture in addressing emerging environmental challenges and ensuring future food security.

Welcoming the participants, Dr Ratnesh Kumar Jha, Director, Extension Education, RPCAU, Pusa, highlighted the significant role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in technology dissemination, farmer capacity building, and strengthening linkages between agricultural research and field-level adoption.

Dr Raghavendra Singh, Director, ICAR–Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute, Motihari emphasized balanced fertilizer use, soil-test-based nutrient management, and integration of legumes, green manures, and biofertilizers into cropping systems to improve soil fertility, nutrient-use efficiency, and farm profitability.

Scientists, heads of Krishi Vigyan Kendras, officials from ICAR institutes, RPCAU, the Department of Agriculture, Government of Bihar, and extension personnel also participated in the programme.
The programme was organized with the support of ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, RPCAU, Pusa.

The conference concluded with a collective pledge to strengthen soil health restoration, promote natural farming, encourage balanced nutrient management, and advance climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices for ensuring long-term food security, environmental sustainability, and improved farmer livelihoods across Bihar.
