ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a Field Day today for officers and staff of the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Goa, to showcase innovative and climate-resilient agricultural technologies developed and demonstrated at the institute. During the field visit, the participants were sensitized to several climate resilient farmer-centric technologies and experimental models aimed at enhancing productivity, sustainability, and resource-use efficiency in coastal agroecosystems.
The participants visited the integrated fish farming system, coconut-based silvo-pastoral system featuring 42 different fodder species grown in the interspaces of coconut plantations, rainwater harvesting structures designed to meet crop water requirements during the post rainy season, and cashew-based agroforestry systems incorporating in situ soil and moisture conservation technologies suitable for the sloping lands of Goa. The participants also visited experimental blocks of fast-growing tree species being evaluated for industrial and commercial purposes, as well as the institute’s bambusetum, which conserves and showcases more than 60 bamboo germplasm collections.
The field demonstrations provided valuable insights into sustainable land-use systems, integrated farming system approaches, natural resource management, and climate-resilient agricultural practices suitable to the coastal region. In addition to the field demonstrations, several other important technologies and research interventions developed by ICAR-CCARI were discussed with the participants.
During the field visit participants and experts deliberated on strategies for upscaling these technologies in departmental farms and facilitating their wider dissemination among farming communities across Goa. The interaction emphasized strengthening collaboration between ICAR-CCARI and the Directorate of Agriculture for effective technology transfer, capacity building, and promotion of proven technologies among farmers.
The event served as an important platform for fostering stronger linkages between research and extension systems and promoting the adoption of innovative agricultural technologies for sustainable agricultural development in Goa.
Around 20 officers and staff members from the Directorate of Agriculture, Goa, participated in the Field Day.
