Under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna organized a farmer awareness and training programme at Karai village of Naubatpur block in Patna district today.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna, emphasized the importance of sustainable nutrient management for maintaining soil health and ensuring long-term agricultural productivity. He urged farmers to increase the use of organic manures, adopt green manuring with dhaincha, and follow soil test-based balanced fertilizer application to improve soil fertility, reduce input costs, and enhance crop productivity. He emphasised that to save Field, sustaining soil, water and environmental health is of paramount importance. The women farmers were encouraged to adopt diversified homestead farming for their nutrition, year round income and climate resilience.

Farmers were sensitized to the likely impact of El Niño-induced climatic anomalies on the southwest monsoon and the potential consequences for crop production. They were advised to adopt suitable climate-resilient technologies to minimize the effects of any monsoon deficit, including direct seeded rice (DSR), cultivation of short-duration and climate-resilient crop varieties, efficient water management, timely crop establishment, and balanced nutrient management. The importance of contingency planning and adopting location-specific scientific recommendations to cope with erratic rainfall was also emphasized.
During the interactive session, a progressive women farmer Geeta Devi told that after earlier meetings under the Khjet Bachao Abhiyan, She incorporated Dhaincha and moong in her field. She urged others to do the same. Farmers actively participated in discussions and collectively resolved to adopt sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to protect agricultural land, conserve soil and water resources, and promote environmentally sustainable farming practices for ensuring food security and a resilient agricultural future for the coming generations.
A total of 141 farmers, including 95 women farmers, participated enthusiastically in the programme.
