ICAR Mizoram Centre Organises Training on Low-Cost Pig Feeding and Early Weaning for Tribal Farmers

The ICAR Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, organised a one-day training programme on “Low-Cost Feeding and Early Weaning of Pigs for Livelihood Improvement of Tribal Farmers of Mizoram” today under the NABARD project.

The training programme was inaugurated by Dr S. Doley, HoRC, ICAR Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the prevailing scenario of pig farming in the North-Eastern region, with special reference to Mizoram. He emphasised the importance of adopting cost-effective feeding practices and improved management techniques to enhance pig productivity and profitability, thereby contributing to the livelihood improvement of tribal farmers.

The technical sessions covered various aspects of low-cost feeding practices, early weaning of piglets, health management for profitable pig farming, major pig diseases, and biosecurity measures. Experts from the ICAR Mizoram Centre delivered technical lectures and interacted with the farmers, addressing key challenges associated with pig production and management.

A total of 35 farmers from Kolasib, Thingdawl, Kawnpui, and Bairabi of Kolasib district participated in the training programme. The programme provided the participating farmers with practical knowledge and improved management strategies for enhancing the efficiency, profitability, and sustainability of pig farming in the region.
