ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata Achieves Patent Milestone for Innovative Jute Leaf Drink Technology

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, has achieved a significant intellectual property milestone with the grant of Indian Patent No. 594436 for the innovative technology “A Process for Manufacture of Antioxidant Rich Jute Leaf Suitable for Ready to Use Jute Leaf Drink”, granted on 06 July 2026.

The technology, branded as “Amata Moroheiya Infusion,” transforms underutilized jute leaves into a value-added, preservative-free herbal beverage, opening a new avenue for whole-crop utilization. The innovation has also been ICAR-certified, trademark-registered and commercially licensed, demonstrating the successful translation of scientific research into a market-oriented product.

The Director, ICAR-NINFET, congratulated the entire research team for this outstanding achievement and appreciated their commitment to innovation, intellectual property creation and technology commercialization.

The technology is contributing to the farming community by creating a market for jute leaves at approximately ₹350–₹400 per kg through Farmer Producer Companies, thereby generating an additional source of income for farmers.

This achievement exemplifies ICAR-NINFET’s commitment to “From Waste of Natural Fibre to Wealth of the Nation”, converting scientific innovation into sustainable rural enterprise and enhanced farmers’ prosperity.
