Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur today. In his address, Shri Singh called upon the scientists to develop short duration varieties of pulse crops to foster multiple cropping systems. He called for preparing a road map for increasing pulse production by stressing on short, medium and long term research efforts. Addressing the pulse growers Shri Singh said that the farmers and the scientists should go with hand-in-hand to produce sufficient food for the growing population.
Minister laid the foundation stone of Scientists Apartments and visited the Genetic Stock Management Farm & experimental fields of the Institute.
Shri Singh released a farmers’ friendly bulletin on Unnat Dalhan Utpadan Prodikiyon ka Sarwajanikaran. A farmer, Shri Rajendra Prasd Savita of village Vidokhar, Distt. Hamirpur was honored with Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Krishi Antyoday Puraskar by the Minister.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary DARE and Director General, ICAR, New Delhi in his welcome address briefed about pulse production scenario in the country, keeping in the foreground the importance and significance of International Year of Pulses. He highlighted the achievements of the Institute in development of new high yielding varieties and matching crop production technologies.
Dr. N.P. Singh, Director, ICAR-IIPR assured all that with immense support of the Government and massive scientific and technical strength, the production of pulses will achieve all targets. He also assured that in the International Year of Pulses, scientists and pulse growers will leave no stone unturned to make the country self-reliant.
