Field Day on “Gladiolus-a high end flower under coconut plantation for livelihood security of tribal communities in Lakshadweep Islands” @Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute , Port Blair, conducted a “Field Day on “Gladiolus-a high end flower under coconut plantation for livelihood security of tribal communities in Lakshadweep Islands” today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Mr. Hussain Manikfan, Chairperson Village Dweep Panchayat, Minicoy expressed his happiness on the new initiatives, i.e. flower cultivation, and entrepreneurship development through floriculture for the tribal farmers by ICAR-CIARI, Regional Station.

The scientific team interacted with the farmers and impressed upon the package of practices for gladiolus farming under coconut plantation as intercrop. Practical sessions on bouquet making and post-harvest management of cut flower was also conducted. The Participating farm women were exposed to institute on-going activities.

A total of 31 participants from Bouduathiri and South Bandaramvillages attended the field day in which they were exposed to gladiolus cultivation under coconut plantation at the institute station.

The programme was conducted under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
