19th August 2022, Gobordanga
The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organised “Climate Resilient Technology Demonstration and Fish harvesting programme” at Media Wetland, Gobordanga, North-24 Parganas, West Bengal under the NICRA project today. The intervention aims to develop resilience, increase the fish production and biodiversity conservation of the wetland.

The programme was implemented under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI.
Dr. U. K. Sarkar, HoD, RWF Division, ICAR-CIFRI, PI, NICRA project outlined the ICAR-CIFRI’s technological interventions of climate resilient cage culture system (CRCS) and climate resilient culture-based fisheries (CRCBF) to the fishers of the wetland.

The fish seeds of climate resilient fish species viz. Systomus sarana, Labeo bata along with Labeo rohita, Labeo catla, Cirrhinus mrigala were stocked and reared in CRCS. More than 500 kg of climate resilient species were harvested from the cages and stocked in the open wetland for stock enhancement in the context of climate change and declining population of indigenous fauna.

The programme was attended scientists and project staffs NICRA. Around 30 fishers were actively involved in the harvesting programme.
