ICAR–Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, celebrated the 98th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at its headquarters on Thursday with a series of commemorative events highlighting the Council's remarkable contribution to agricultural research and development. Established in 1929 as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research during the pre-independence era, ICAR has played a pivotal role in transforming Indian agriculture from a food-deficit system into a food-surplus nation through scientific research, innovation, and technological interventions in agriculture and allied sectors.

To mark the occasion, a plantation drive was organized on the institute campus. Dr P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, along with senior officials of the Institute, planted 50 rose apple saplings, reaffirming the Institute's commitment to environmental sustainability and a greener future.
As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, a special lecture on "Bridging the GAP: Effective Communication in the Digital Age" was delivered emphasizing the importance of effective communication, digital literacy, and the responsible use of modern communication platforms for enhancing professional excellence and public engagement.

The Institute also arranged a live telecast of the 98th ICAR Foundation Day celebrations held at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), New Delhi. Scientists, technical officers, administrative staff, and other employees of ICAR-CIFA participated in the programme and witnessed the national-level celebrations.
The observance reflected ICAR-CIFA's continued commitment to the vision of ICAR in advancing agricultural and aquaculture research, promoting sustainable development, and serving the farming community through science-driven innovations.
