The India Post Eastern region, Patna, Bihar released a Special Postal Cover to commemorate the Geographical Indicator for Magahi Pan (Betelvine) today.


The Magahi Pan (Betelvine) was GI tagged in the Year - 2018 by the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants & Betelvine Centre at Betelvine Research Station, Bihar Agricultural University, Islampur and Magahi Pan Uthpadak Kalyan Samiti, Bihar.
Dr. Arun Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bihar marked his presence as the Chief Guest of the occasion. Highlighting the uniqueness of the Magahi Pan, Dr. Kumar stressed on the need for its export promotion in the country.
Dr. Nanda Kishore, Director, Department of Horticulture, Bihar along with the Senior Officials of ICAR Institutes and Bihar Postal Circle were also present during the occasion.
Shri Adnan Ahmad, Chief Postmaster General, Bihar Circle, Patna, Bihar stated that the Special Postal Cover on Magahi Pan will help in the branding of Magahi Pan in the country.
Dr. R. Nagaraja Reddy, Senior Scientist & Nodal Officer, ICAR-AICRP-MAP&B, Anand, Gujarat underlined the ICAR’s contributions in the research and development of Betelvine in the country. The need for value-addition of the Betelvine in the country was also accentuated by Dr. Reddy.
