Shri Parshottam Rupala, Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Panchayati Raj visited ICAR-Central Institute of Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai today.
Minister in his address, stressed the importance of Technology Transfer from Lab to Land for the benefit of farmers and other stakeholders. He also stressed upon the need to promote the use of cottonseed oil as an edible oil in lieu of the current dependence on imported edible oil. He lauded the establishment of India’s first Nanocellulose Pilot Plant facility at CIRCOT, Mumbai and emphasized the need to exploit its potential through product development.
Shri Rupala visited various research laboratories, nanocellulose pilot plant and exhibition cum visitors’ room of the Institute.
Earlier, Dr. P.G. Patil, Director briefed about the research activities and achievements of the Institute.
Shri Suresh Kotak, Chairman of Indian Society for Cotton Improvement and Chairman, Kotak Foundation briefed the importance of research & development to promote cotton based textiles to tackle the threat posed by man-made fibres.
