The ICAR celebrates the Agricultural Education Day on 3rd December every year across the country to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first Agriculture Minister of the country and First President of Independent India. The initiative aims at developing the interest in agriculture and allied sciences among the students.
ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi
The ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi arranged a Lecture on “Transforming Agricultural Education to Build New India” by Prof. R.B. Singh to celebrate the Agricultural Education Day at Dr. B.P. Pal Auditorium, ICAR-IARI Campus, Pusa, New Delhi.
In his lecture, Dr. Singh accentuated on the need of education in agriculture and its implications for transforming the existing agricultural system. He stressed that education will help to utilize the information related to weather, new crop varieties, resource conserving cultivation practices as well as farm machinery. He stated that its implementation will be helpful in enhancing the farmers’ returns.
Dr. Singh regarded the agriculture as the main driver of change to curb the problem of hunger in the country. He urged the face behind the technology to focus in agriculture education for humanizing the science. He asserted on the need to allow the science to guide us in our life. Dr. Singh emphasized that the education should be based on scientific evidences. He accentuated that for achieving our target of alleviating the hunger and poverty by the Year- 2030, we need to shift from Land grant system to World grant system.
ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad
The Institute celebrated the occasion with full fervor and enthusiasm. Dr. V. Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University inaugurated the event in the presence of Dr. A. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Director, ICAR-IIOR and Directors of sister ICAR Institutes in Hyderabad.
The occasion marked the display of exhibitions of live specimens and posters depicting the technologies in oilseed crops, crop cafeteria of 7 oilseed crops and laboratories.
A total of 2,034 students from 27 schools and colleges along with accompanying teachers participated in the event.
ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal
The Institute organized the awareness programme on soil health for 100 plus school students Sardar Patel School, Bhopal. The occasion marked the farm visits, scientists’-students’-interaction sessions and quiz competitions, etc.

AICRP (STCR), ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal
The Institute organized an Awareness Programme on Soil Health on the occasion of Agricultural Education Day.
The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad Centre organized various events at Z.P. High School, Pedha Shapur Village, Shamshabad Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana State. A total of 170 students participated in the event.
The Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner Centre also organized programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Eganop. The students were made aware on the importance of agriculture and soil testing to maintain the soil health besides, different management practices for improving crop productivity.
The various doubts and queries were addressed and solved during the scientists’-students’-interaction session.
