The restructured UG curricula in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 is ready for Agricultural Universities focusing on skill development frame work, said Dr. R.C. Agrawal, the Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), Indian Council of Agricultural Research during the conference of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities here at Kanha Shantivanam, Hyderabad. A mandatory foundation course of three weeks duration on Yoga and Meditation is framed in new syllabus in addition to the provision of multiple entry and exit in degree programs and more focus will be on skill development on the student part in the New Education Policy, he stressed on, while the discussions were happening. A Memorandum of understanding with Mr. Kamlesh D. Patel “Daaji”, Heartfulness Education Trust to introduce yoga in ICAR-affiliated universities was signed by Dr. Agrawal on behalf of ICAR on 1 October 2022 at Kanha Shantivanam, the world’s largest meditation hall at the Heartfulness Headquarters.

Revenue generation models, 6th Deans committee recommendations, new UG program for natural farming, public private partnership models, implementation of NEP-20202 in agricultural universities, draft HR recruitments in Agril sector for next 20 years, gap analysis for global ranking of agricultural universities were discussed during the three days conference of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities from 30th September to 2nd October, 2022.


Dr. R.C. Agrawal told, that in the sixth deans committee, in the context of Indian farming, B.Sc (Hons.), Natural farming course is planned to be introduced now in the universities for practice of production and research in natural farming. To encourage natural farming in a greater way, the fellowship provision to the students, entrepreneurship development in connection with the natural farming, backup and forward linkages will be provided. To train more manpower and farmers on natural farming, Krishi Vigyan Kendras are entrusted with this job. Also, major crops will be tested for natural farming at multi locations.
Dr. Agrawal urged the Vice Chancellor's of Agricultural Universities to aim at 30% internal revenue generation to begin with and reach financial self sustaining by 2035 asper NEP-2020. Several revenue generation models were discussed in details such as hydroponics, aeroponics, breeder seed production, selling of parental lines or varieties; development and selling of agri machinery; selling of medical and aromatic plants; selling poultry birds, animal breeds, biopesticides, biofungicides; making vermicompost etc. Ethanol production, replacement of soyameal which is costly with sericulture pupae and natural colours, millets, diary, mushrooms, dehydrated products and traditional rice varieties are some more areas available for revenue generation.
Universities can now offer services or consultancies, DDG told to the VCs
Universities are open now to take up consultancies, offer certificate, diploma courses, agri-tourism, branding of products, fecilitation centers to export of produce, act as innovation centres, certification and accreditation bodies for agri- products etc.
Governor of Telangana, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan while addressing the VCs during the conference said that the survival of the world depends on the development of agriculture and there is no past, present and future without the mention of agriculture. She further stressed that compared to other courses, students are showing more inclination towards the agriculture courses.
